Superpact! Superpact!

It’s superpacty!

In the last weeks before the Bravo deal closed, I got down to my lowest recorded weight in probably ten years — oh, not the good way. No, no. By just plain not eating, due to stress. So, surprise! Since the deal closed and I started not just eating normally but having lots of “celebration” eating, I’ve gained ten pounds in like two months. Not good. Dave and I went shopping on Saturday and I tried on a dress and felt all flabby and gross, and Dave said he also felt like he’d let things slide.

What to do?

We made a pact — actually, a superpact. It’s a five-pronged approach to clawing our way back from flabby grossness (on my part; Dave looks fine).

  1. Go to the gym every weekday.
  2. Don’t bring any crap food into the house. (We even did a clean-out of the food we have, so food-bank clients will soon be enjoying our Kraft Dinner and cake mix.)
  3. No eating after dinner.
  4. Diligently record all the food we eat in our calorie-counting program, CalorieKing.
  5. Confine restaurant meals to one a week.

It’s too soon to say how well it’s working; this is only the second full day. But the first thing we did after making the Superpact was watch a Jim Gaffigan special that was, like, 75% about food, and both managed not to waver; it might be our greatest victory in life.

The no-eating-after-dinner thing is genius. I found the first few days to be tough, but now it’s a habit. (It also helps that I lost 7 pounds in three weeks, so I can snack on self-satisfaction and righteousness after dinner, rather than chips.)

The Gaffigan special was probably 50% about Hot Pockets so I’m not sure how victorious that was… :)

Hot Poocckkeettt…
