Greetings, Upper West Siders!

I need a recommendation for a good tailor that will shorten jeans using this hemming technique. I have only had one pair of pants shortened since I’ve been living here, and they didn’t use that method (though it didn’t matter as much because they were cords), but I’ve been gun-shy ever since. According to the internet, the best place to get your jeans shortened the non-dorky way is Stanton Tailor Shop, but it’s all the way down in Little Italy and I am very seldom down there. Meanwhile, I have had a pair of jeans from American Eagle sitting in the bottom of my closet since April, unwearable because I am not seven feet tall. Guide me, please! (At right: not me.)

I get my jeans shortened at the Dry Cleaners (Nordic – Columbus
between 86th and 87th) – they do a good job and charge about $20, I think.

what you want is called a “french” or “european-style” hem. i like it because it doesn’t look like your mom hemmed your jeans for you…

in toronto, i get it done at one of the loblaws service kiosks, so with a name for the style, I’m guessing you can find almost any tailor in NY to do it for you.

There is a dry cleaner on West 83rd between Bway and Amsterdam that will hem your pants that way.
