The first month doesn’t count. That’s when we were in the furnished rental, waiting for our permanent place to be ready for us to move into, and also running around town picking out a couch and a TV and a coffee table (though we ended up going with a couple of storage cubes with tops that flip over from being cushions to being trays — quite cunning, really) and an entryway console and a dresser and whatever other random crap we needed. And then when we actually moved into our permanent home, about two months ago, I think we may have just needed a few weeks to enjoy having all our things again; it’s surprisingly disorienting to live in a glorified hotel for an entire month.
But now, it’s been three months, and I think we’re actually done. Dave hung up all the art on Friday, and the super came and installed the fan in the bedroom. The guy came last week and put in almost all the blinds, and on Sunday we went and got a lamp for the living room, and there are exactly zero boxes left in the place and now I have all these issues of Domino still coming, to tease me, when I have no more decorating worlds to conquer.
And after three months, I still love New York. I’m excited for the weather to change so I can start crunching the fallen leaves under my boots and pretend I’m in a Woody Allen movie.
Oh, and what celebrities have I randomly seen since I’ve been living here? I’m so glad you asked!
- Lois Smith: 86th Street
- Samantha Bee: somewhere in midtown
- Joey Slotnick: Soho
- Kevin Bacon: two different times, right in our neighbourhood
- Isabella Rosselini: basement at 30 Rock
- Renée Zellweger: with two gigantic Duane Reade bags, right around Columbus Circle
- Camryn Manheim: Soho
- Max Weinberg: NBC gym
- Joel the announcer from Conan: hallway by the ladies’ room at work
- Matt Lauer: elevator at work
- David Gregory: lobby at work
- Amy Carlson: subway
Now that SNL is back on, I am going to start loitering around that end of the hallway until I run into Will Forte and force him to be my friend.

OMG, David Gregory and Kevin Bacon! I’m painfully jealous.I am also envious that you could walk around Central Park every day if you wanted, surrounded by all the beauty. So now that the blinds are up you are free to walk around buck naked?
